    About Dr. Jennifer Sedillo

Dr. Jennifer Sedillo is an associate professor in public health. She recently received her doctorate from the University of South Florida, where she was involved in infectious disease research. Jennifer has been involved in biomedical and environmental microbiology research for the past 12 years.

Jennifer has extensive research experience in microbiology and public health. She has interned at the Mote Marine Lab in Sarasota, Florida where they monitor the Gulf of Mexico for red tide blooms. Jennifer also interned at the Border Health and Epidemiology Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico which studies border health issues between the United States and Mexico. For her research in her master’s thesis, she studied activated carbon filters as potential devices for bioforensic studies of intentional microbial releases into the U.S. water supply.

Jennifer has also conducted research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas under Dr. Eric Hansen, where she contributed to the research of Moraxella cattarhalis, a bacterium that causes otitis media in children and exacerbates COPD in adults. Her most current research has focused the pathology of the deadly form of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum under the Global Health Infectious Disease Research Program at the University of South Florida. During this time, she completed training at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and Institut Pasteur.
